What to do How to do it
A. Important Information The computer name must be 11 characters or shorter in order to use Method 2 mapping.

If you already have the AFS Client installed, use Windows Explorer to disconnect the Q: drive (i.e., if you already have the Q: drive mapped and set to reconnect at login, disconnect it so that it is no longer set to reconnect at login).

This method will create a global drive that will be automatically mapped under all logins on the computer

B. Create Global Drive
  1. Login with an account that has administrative privileges on the computer.
  2. Select Settings -> Control Panel
  3. Double-click the AFS Client Configuration control panel.
  4. Click on the General tab.
  5. Check the Client Status section to make sure the client is running.
  6. Click on the Advanced tab.
  7. Click the Global Drives button.
  8. In the Global Drive window, click the Add button.
  9. In the Map Global Drive window, enter these values:
    Drive Letter:Q:
    AFS Path:\afs\ucdavis.edu\desktop
    Description:Desktop
Note: If the Q: drive is not available in the list, it is because you already have it mapped. Use Windows Explorer to disconnect the Q: drive.
  10. Click OK to save the mapping.
  11. Click Close to close the Global Drive window.
  12. Click on the General tab.
  13. Stop and restart the AFS Client service.
