OpenAFS Client Download and Manual Installer

Connecting to Andrew File System (Installing the AFS Client)

Step 4: Test the AFS Client    INTRO  1  2  3  4
What to do How to do it
A. Test Q Drive Connectivity To test the AFS client, launch Windows Explorer or open My Computer and find the Q: drive (you may need to refresh your view in Windows Explorer).

Notes:

  • The Q: drive may be identified as "Disconnected Network Drive," this is normal. If you can access the Q: drive and open the "DaFIS" folder, then your AFS client is properly configured.
  • DaFIS TP may be slow to launch the first time it is accessed. The first time you load it, all required files are copied from the network into the AFS client cache file on your hard drive. Subsequent times the file is accessed (e.g., if you exit DaFIS TP and then start it again), it can be retrieved from the AFS cache; this increases the performance even more, and the launch times will be considerably quicker.
  • Now that you have confirmed that the AFS Client is properly working you are ready to install/upgrade DaFIS.
B. Troubleshooting If you have any problems with the AFS Client software, please check our AFS Troubleshooting Guide for a list of the most common problems and their solutions.

If you do not see a performance improvement after installing this software, be sure to check the Spurious Mapping of \\proxy-afs\desktop section of the troubleshooting guide.

For systems behind an OpenBSD firewall, see the AFS Troubleshooting Guide.
