OpenAFS Client Download and Automated Installer

Uninstall previous versions

To use this installer you must insure that any previous OpenAFS Client has been uninstalled:

Primary method:

  1. From the Start Menu>Programs>OpenAFS choose Uninstall
  2. When the uninstall procedure is completed you will be prompted to restart the computer
  3. Once the computer has restarted be sure that:
    • You have deleted the AFSCache in the \\Windows\Temp folder (remember that this is a system file, you may need to set “View Hidden System Files”)
    • You delete the C:\Program Files\OpenAFS folder and subfolders
An alternate method would be to use the Control Panel Add and Remove Programs feature. If prompted, do not save any AFS Client settings.

Finding the Installer

The new installer(s) can be downloaded below. There is an installer for 32bit and 64bit.

The advantages to using these installers are that they will automatically include the DNS setting and map the Q drive.

You are now ready to install the IET OpenAFS Client installer

Wizard Installation (Recommended method):

  1. Double-Click the MSI (or launch the MSI from the commandline without any switches)
  2. Click Next, Accept the License Agreement, and Click Next
  3. Click Typical
  4. Click Install
  5. Click Finish
  6. Click Yes to Reboot when appropriate
The keys to a successful install are:
  1. Deletion of any CellServDB file in the C:\Program Files\OpenAFS\Client directory.
  2. Deletion of the AFSCache from the C:\Windows\Temp directory.
For systems that are behind an OpenBSD Firewall, please refer to the AFS Troubleshooting Guide.
