Un-Install Guide

These instructions apply to Windows 2000.

There are two ways to un-install DaFIS. For best results, we recommend the "expert" method of uninstalling. DO NOT use the expert method if you are not experienced in editing the registry. Accidentally removing information from the registry can make your computer inoperable.

How to Uninstall DaFIS TP - Safe Method

You can use the Oracle installer utility to uninstall the Oracle Net8 Client.

  1. If needed, map the Q: drive to an AFS server.
  2. Select Start -> Run
  3. In the Open field, enter Q:\dist\Net8i\setup.exe
  4. Click the OK button.
  5. You should see a flashing windows that says Loading . . . and then Oracle Universal Installer as the installer starts up.
  6. In the Welcome screen, click the Deinstall Products... button.
  7. In the Inventory window, click the plus symbol next to OHOME1.
  8. You should now see one or more items listed under the OHOME1 heading. Put a check in the box next to each item, particularly the Oracle8i Client item.
  9. Click the Remove button.
  10. In the Confirmation window, click the Yes button.
  11. You should see a Remove progress window as the Net8 client is uninstalled.
  12. Back in the Inventory window, click the Close button.
  13. Back at the Welcome screen, click the Exit button.
  14. In the Exit confirmation window, click the Yes button

How to Uninstall DaFIS TP - Expert Method

Caution: This method deals with the Windows Registry. Do not attempt it unless you are an expert.

  1. Delete the following directories and their contents.
    C:\Oracle
    C:\Program Files\Oracle
    C:\orant (if found)
    C:\orawin95 (if found)
Important: If you installed DaFIS TP on a drive other than C:, you'll find these directories on that drive instead. Even so, you still need to locate and delete C:\Program Files\Oracle.

  2. Run regedit. Delete this registry key (be careful!).
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Oracle
After you have deleted the key, exit regedit.

  3. Remove references to the directories you deleted from the PATH.
Windows 2000: Open the System control panel. Click on the Environment tab. Edit the PATH environment variable.
  4. Optional: Delete the Oracle and UCD Admin Services folders from the Start menu.
  5. Restart the computer.

How to Reinstall DaFIS TP

After you have uninstalled DaFIS TP, you can use the regular installation methods to reinstall DaFIS TP.

Follow the DaFIS TP New Installation Guide instructions to use the automated installer.

If you are having trouble with the automated installer or if you prefer more interaction and control, follow the DaFIS TP Manual Installation instructions.

More Information About DaFIS TP Uninstall

The DaFIS TP application is comprised of two components: Compuware Uniface and Oracle Net8 Client. Uniface is the part that displays the forms and menus. When you search for documents or enter data, Uniface constructs a database command and then calls the Oracle Net8 Client. The Oracle Net8 client is responsible for contacting the database and receiving results and responses from the database.

Only the Oracle Net8 Client portion of DaFIS TP is installed on your computer. The Compuware Uniface portion is stored on the Q: drive.

When we say uninstall DaFIS TP, we really mean uninstall Oracle Net8. That is why all of the uninstall instructions refer to Oracle products.

Most Windows applications can be removed via the Add/Remove Programs control panel. However you won't find an entry for the Oracle Net8 Client in the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Oracle provides an installer utility instead; in normal situations, you can use the Oracle Universal Installer to add and remove Oracle components.

There are times when the Oracle Universal Installer is not sufficient for uninstall needs. For example, it may not recognize all of the installed components, it may not be able to uninstall old versions of Oracle components or it may crash when you try to run it. In these situations, the expert uninstall method is the only alternative.
