The DaFIS Training database may be installed on any computer on the UCD network so that new users are able to practice using DaFIS on their own. All of the exercises used in our training classes are available online so that users can access them from their office to practice and reinforce the concepts learned in the classes.

Installing the Training Database

Installing DaFIS Training on a machine that already has DaFIS Production installed on it:

1. Click once on the DaFIS icon on your computer's desktop with your right mouse button and select "Create Shortcut" from the menu.
2. Rename your new DaFIS shortcut icon to "DaFIS Training".
3. Right-click on the new DaFIS Training icon and select "Properties" from the menu.
4. Select the "Shortcut" tab at the top of the properties screen.
5. Change the Target from Q:\DaFIS\Prod\... to Q:\DaFIS\Training\...
6. Click OK to save your changes.

1. Run the DaFIS Installer following the regular instructions.
2. When you get to the screen that says "Select Items to Install" be sure to check the box next to DaFIS Training.
3. If you do not wish to install DaFIS Production on your computer, uncheck that box.
4. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.

Logging into the Training Database
Please select a trainee login ID and password from this list to use for logging into the Training database.

Note: If you are unable to log in with one of the trainee IDs and passwords, there may be a firewall setting adjustment needed on your computer. Some departments have a firewall rule to allow connections with fis-tp.ucdavis.edu (i.e., the DaFIS TP Production database), but not fis-test.ucdavis.edu (i.e., the database server for all of the other TP instances, including Training). Refer to the firewall FAQ for more information.

Using the Training Exercises
All of the exercises used in our classes are available online. Feel free to use these exercises to practice in the Training database. If you would like the DaFIS training staff to review your documents and provide feedback, please send dafistraining@ucdavis.edu a list of your document numbers. Note: the training database refreshes every Monday, so your documents will be lost at that time.
